The Supreme Court made a decision regarding the symbols and names used by different factions of the NCP party in elections. They told the Election Commission of India to officially assign the symbol of a “man blowing turrah” to Sharad Pawar’s faction for upcoming elections.
Sharad Pawar’s group was worried because their symbol could be used by others, causing confusion for voters. The court said that both the national and state election commissions should recognize this symbol as reserved for Sharad Pawar’s group.
Additionally, the court told the Ajit Pawar faction not to use Sharad Pawar’s name or picture in their election campaigns. They must also put a disclaimer saying their use of the ‘clock’ symbol depends on the court’s final decision.
Earlier, the court criticized the Ajit Pawar camp for using Sharad Pawar’s name and images in their campaigning, reminding them they’re now a separate party.
The Election Commission had previously declared Ajit Pawar’s faction as the real NCP, but Sharad Pawar disagreed and went to court to challenge this decision. He questioned how the commission decided Ajit Pawar’s group should get the party’s name and symbol.
