In Maharashtra, a BJP lawmaker named Ganpat Gaikwad was arrested for reportedly shooting a leader of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), Mahesh Gaikwad, inside a police station. This incident happened on Saturday at the Hill Line Police Station in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra.
During a meeting that included a high-ranking police officer, Ganpat Gaikwad is said to have shot at Mahesh Gaikwad, resulting in serious injuries. Mahesh Gaikwad was rushed to a hospital in Thane for treatment.
The shooting took place when the two were discussing their issues at the police station, aiming to file a complaint. The disagreement escalated, leading to Ganpat Gaikwad firing at Mahesh Gaikwad and his supporters, injuring two people. The police have begun investigating the matter to understand what exactly happened.
Following the incident, Ganpat Gaikwad and two others were arrested, with the police confirming that a total of six shots were fired. The case is being closely looked into by the authorities.
In response to the shooting, leaders from other political parties criticized the state’s governance. Anand Dubey from Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed his dismay, pointing out that it’s alarming when elected officials resort to violence. Similarly, the Youth Congress president condemned the ruling coalition, hinting at connections between the involved parties and high-ranking officials.
The underlying cause of the confrontation seems to be a political rivalry, with both leaders eyeing the same legislative seat and frequently criticizing each other. The police are still investigating to find out the motive behind the shooting.
